What We Do
We offer full Architectural Design, Interior Design, Planning, Project Management and Residential Decor services that can be tailored to suit the specific requirements of each client. Services range from Urban Planning and Feasibility Studies to Concept Design, Design Development, Production Information, Site Inspection, Contract Administration, Design Team Management, Product Sourcing and Installation.
We embrace technology at every stage of a project utilizing current version software to produce 3D project modeling, full-colour presentation drawings, detailed design, working drawings and specifications in BIM workflows with downstream IFC support.
Architecture
Gillespie & Steel has a long and successful history of designing highly desirable and inspired spaces, and we continue our quest to create luxury residences, commercial buildings and civic spaces that redefine the style of Caribbean Architecture. Our goal is to help people have better lives by creating inspired places for them to truly live, work, learn and play. We embrace our history, culture and heritage by weaving them with current innovations to create beautiful environments that are authentic, unique and highly marketable.
GSA Studio is driven by professionals who have a long and accomplished history with the development community within Toronto. Our Principal hasspecialized in Medium and High Density Residential projects and Retirement Residences for the past 20 years with a considerable measure of success in this field.
Interior Design
We strive for excellence and integrity in our approach to our projects, be it small-scale personalized spaces or extensive institutional interiors. We work from the inside out, nurturing and shepherding the process to the desired completion. We work closely with our clients, involving them at every stage to create the right solutions for the challenges and opportunities they face. We pride ourselves on listening carefully and observing how our clients interact with their spaces. Combining this knowledge with our training and experience, we develop a customized design direction for each project.
GSA can take any interior from inception to occupation, be it a small boutique retail outlet, a mid-sized corporate office, a large hotel or a dream home. We select and specify all materials, finishes and furnishings. For our residential clients we take pride in helping choose the ideal furniture, accessories, linens, etc. to make that home a special place.
Master Planning
Gillespie & Steel is a leader in the practice and direction of planning in the Caribbean and beyond; the firm has participated in the design of new and existing communities in Barbados, St. Lucia, Jamaica, The Bahamas, The Turks & Caicos Islands, Colombia, Guatemala and several resort and urban communities in the United States. Gillespie & Steel has worked and exchanged concepts with several major international planners. The firm’s method of integrating master plans with project-specific design covenants and regulations has been applied to sites ranging from as little as five acres or less to over 500 acres.
At GSA Studio Alistair has worked with some of the best Land Use Planners and Urban Designers within the GTA. His involvement on past projects has involved successful OPA, ZBA, and SPA applications leading to construction. An understanding of this planning process, how to navigate its appeals and negotiation of higher densities with the municipalities has become paramount to helping developers complete successful projects.
